Recycling and Raising funds for “No Kill Louisville”

ECO-CELL and the volunteer-led animal advocate group “No Kill Louisville” have teamed up on an electronics recycling drive to generate funds for emergency animal rescue, transport, and adoption services.

Beginning in February 2011, NKL supporters may recycle cell phones and hand-held electronics with ECO-CELL (items and drop-off locations are listed below) to benefit the Louisville group dedicated to “raising awareness and support to become a No Kill community for all companion pets.”

The partnership is a natural for both organizations. Since 2003, the ECO-CELL recycling program has generated funds and diverted electronics from the waste stream into responsible disposal and recycling practices.

ECO-CELL has partnerships with more than 100 zoos and wildlife organizations, businesses, charities, Non-Profit Organizations, and community groups of  every size and scope. With this partnership, NKL and animal lovers in Louisville have a new option and means of raising funds for emergency situations and animals in need.

Eric Ronay, ECO-CELL President, describes the partnership:

“For years, ECO-CELL has worked with amazing organizations around the U.S., but we have had a relatively small presence in our hometown.  So, the NKL partnership provides a great opportunity  for us to help the Louisville community and the animals that NKL works so hard to protect. We are thrilled to help with such a worthwhile cause.”

When Skeeter Came to ECO-CELL

There is more to the story. In Summer 2010, ECO-CELL owners Eric and Lindsey Ronay adopted “Skeeter” the chi-beagle (chihuahua beagle mix) after finding him via the No Kill Louisville facebook page. The adorable little puppy needed a foster home while he waited to be adopted. The Ronays volunteered to foster the puppy, but after just a few hours with the Ronay family, it was clear that Skeeter had found his “forever home.”

Skeeter has become the “mascot” for ECO-CELL and is a fan favorite at events and recycling drives. Skeeter is VP of Animal Affairs, and he can be seen on the banner at the outdoor ECO-CELL recycling bin at the ECO-CELL offices, 1726 Mellwood Ave.
